  • Originating in the mid-20th century predominantly in Europe and the United States of America, contemporary dance is a form of performing arts that incorporates various techniques and styles of modern, classical and jazz.
  • Contemporary dance was originally choreographed and performed by working-class, average people for enjoyment. Its steps and techniques were not to be analyzed, it means to be enjoyed as the art it is and was solely meant for entertainment purposes.
  • Contemporary dance utilizes music in an independent art form that serves as a background for the performance. They need not be synchronous, in theme or in accordance to the performance on stage.
  • Contemporary dance consists of a lot of floor work, while stressing on the torso and back. The dancer is usually with loose hair and bare feet. They do not follow any certain technique or rule and choreographers are creatively independent. They have their own independent vocabulary as well.
