Artist-in-Residence Ronaldo Kiel received his BA in arts from the Art Institute of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, and his MFA from Brooklyn College. He completed his post-graduate study in Art through a CAPES/Fulbright grant that brought him to USA. Since his arrival in New York, his digital video and computer art work has been chosen for festivals, international exhibitions and symposiums on art and technology such as the Prix Ars Electronica in Austria and the International Media Art Biennale in Poland. He is currently an Assistant Professor at Brooklyn College. In 2001, Cheng & Kiel premiered, D’Invenzione, an interactive four-channel DVD-video installation, at SESC Pompeia, São Paulo. One month later, D’Invenzione was presented as part of the inaugural show of the Santander Cultural Center, Porto Alegre, Brazil.

In 2003, Kiel received an Artist's Fellowship in Computer Arts, from the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) in collaboration with Cheng. For 2004-05, they are both Digital Fellows at Dance Theater Workshop in the Artists' Resource and Media Lab (ARM).
